How big will my Great Dane puppy get?
Size may vary per individual dog. According to the GDCA Standard for Great Danes a Dog (Male) should be no shorter than 30” at the shoulders but preferred height is 32” or more and body must be well proportioned with his height, a Bitch (Female) should be no shorter than 28” at the shoulder but preferred height is 30” or more and body must be in proportion with height.

How much does a Great Dane eat?
Males normally average 8-12 cups of food a day. Females normally average 6-10 cups of food a day.

Are Great Danes easy to train?
In my experience Danes are normally very eager to please their master but can be very stubborn as well, and due to their size early training with lots of encouragement and a firm hand is highly recommended.

How much space and exercise does a Great Dane need?
Great Danes are huge couch potatoes and are known to be one of the better apartment dogs despite their generous size. They should still have moderate exercise and play for their burst of energy when it does come around.

Are Great Danes good family dogs?
In my experience I would have to say Great Danes are excellent family dogs with a gentle temperament good with children of all ages provided they are well socialized from an early age. I however would only recommend a Dane to a family with small children provided they have previous Dane experience. Due to their generous size they may be a bit too much for a first time Dane family, so I recommend exercising caution and to ask a lot of questions when considering a Dane as a family dog,

Do Great Danes have any Health Issues?
Breed Known Issues: Serious problems include Cancer, Bloat, wobblers and Heart Disease. Less serious problems include Allergies, Sensitive Skin & Stomach, and Thyroid Issues.

How long does a Great Danes live?
Great Danes are known as the Heart-Break dog due to their short life expectancy of 7-10 Years although with proper care some have been known to live 11-13 years.

How much do Great Danes cost to care for?
Great Danes are an expensive breed due to their generous size and special care needs. Pet Insurance is highly recommended.

Do Great Danes shed?
Yes, Great Danes shed more that most people realize but due to their short coat maintenance is minimal.

Do Great Danes have good temperament?
Temperament highly depends on two major factors: Breeding & Training/Socialization. Ask about the temperament of your Dane’s previous generations to get an idea of what your Dane’s temperament may be like. As well as Train and Socialize from an early age to insure you have a well-tempered dog.

Are Great Danes good with other animals?
As with just about any dog if you socialize them from an early age you should have no issues with other animals.

What colors do Great Danes come in?
There are seven color families recognized by the GDCA: Fawn, Brindle, Blue, Black, Mantle, Harlequin & Merle. Although only seven colors are recognized, Great Danes can come in many more colors and variations.
